Global sourcing

We do not own mills.
That is the advantage.

A mill sells what it rolls. Holding relationships across eleven countries means every order can be matched to the mill that fits it — on specification, on compliance and on schedule — rather than to the one we happen to be committed to.

The network

Where the coil comes from

Each origin has a distinct profile — capability, price position, certification acceptance and freight geometry. Matching those to your order is most of what a trader is for.

China CN

  • HRC
  • CRC
  • GI
  • GL
  • PPGI
  • Stainless

The widest mill base in the network and, for most families, the reference price. We work with a shortlist of large integrated and coating mills rather than the open trading market, because the quality spread between Chinese mills is far wider than the price spread.

  • Deepest capacity
  • Full product range
  • Fastest rolling schedules

Vietnam VN

  • GI
  • GL
  • PPGI
  • PPGL
  • CRC

Our home market and the strongest origin for coated and pre-painted coil into South East Asia and Australia. Vietnamese coating lines are modern, and freight from Ho Chi Minh City and Haiphong is short and frequent.

  • Coated coil specialists
  • Short lead times to ASEAN
  • Competitive PPGI

India IN

  • HRC
  • CRC
  • GI
  • PPGI

Large integrated producers with reliable certification and good acceptance in European and Middle Eastern markets. Typically competitive on hot-rolled and cold-rolled, with growing coated capacity.

  • Integrated mills
  • Strong HRC and CRC
  • Established EU/MEA routes

Korea KR

  • CRC
  • GI
  • GL
  • Stainless

Where the specification is demanding — automotive sub-supply, restricted tolerance, exposed-surface quality — Korean mills are usually the shortest route to an acceptable result, at a premium.

  • Premium quality tier
  • Automotive-grade capability
  • Tight tolerance

Japan JP

  • HRC
  • CRC
  • GI
  • Stainless

The quality benchmark for JIS-specified material. Priced accordingly, and normally reserved for applications where the specification genuinely requires it.

  • Highest consistency
  • JIS reference producer
  • Technical support

Taiwan TW

  • Stainless
  • GI
  • GL
  • CRC

Particularly strong for stainless coil and high-consistency coated product, with documentation quality that rarely causes customs friction.

  • Stainless expertise
  • Consistent coating lines
  • Reliable documentation

Turkey TR

  • HRC
  • CRC
  • GI
  • PPGI

The natural origin for European and Middle Eastern destinations where freight time matters. Turkish mills produce comfortably to EN specifications and accept smaller order quantities than most Asian mills.

  • Short freight to EU/MEA
  • Flexible tonnages
  • EN-specified production

Indonesia ID

  • HRC
  • GI
  • Stainless

An increasingly relevant origin for ASEAN destinations, with tariff advantages under regional trade agreements for qualifying material.

  • Growing coated capacity
  • ASEAN duty position
  • Regional logistics

Thailand TH

  • GI
  • GL
  • PPGI
  • PPGL

Solid coated and pre-painted capacity serving the ASEAN region, often competitive once regional duty treatment is factored into the landed cost.

  • Coating and painting lines
  • ASEAN duty position

UAE AE

  • GI
  • PPGI
  • CRC

Coating capacity inside the GCC, useful where local content or short delivery into the Gulf is the deciding factor.

  • GCC market access
  • Fast MEA delivery
  • Re-export hub

Malaysia MY

  • GI
  • GL
  • PPGI

Selective coated capacity used where a specific line capability or a regional duty position favours it.

  • Niche coated product
  • Regional logistics

Mill qualification

How a mill gets into the network

A wide network is only an advantage if every mill in it is one we would put our own name on. Qualification is continuous, not a one-off audit.

01

Capability, not capacity

We qualify a mill against the specifications we actually trade — gauge range, coating classes, spangle control, tolerance capability, paint systems — rather than against headline tonnage.

02

Certification & systems

Current ISO 9001 as a baseline, with environmental and management system certification where a customer’s own reporting requires it. Certificates are verified, not accepted on sight.

03

Documentation discipline

A mill that produces good steel and poor paperwork will still cost you demurrage. We track MTC accuracy and document turnaround as a quality metric in its own right.

04

Performance history

On-time production against contracted window, claim rate, and how the mill behaves when something goes wrong — which is the measure that matters most.

Origin selection

Six things we weigh before recommending a source

Origin is a commercial decision and a compliance decision at once. The cheapest mill can easily be the most expensive landed tonne.

Specification fit

Which mills can genuinely hold the grade, coating class and tolerance you need — not which claim they can.

Duty & trade remedies

Anti-dumping, countervailing and safeguard exposure at your destination, checked before we recommend a source.

Preferential origin

Whether a trade agreement — ATIGA, ASEAN-China, RCEP, GCC — makes a particular origin materially cheaper landed.

Freight & schedule

Sailing frequency, transit time and current rates from each candidate load port to your discharge port.

Melt-and-pour rules

Where the destination requires the melting country to be declared and evidenced, which rules out re-rolled material.

Mill position

Where each mill sits in its rolling schedule right now, which is what actually determines your lead time.

Compliance

Documentation is part of the product

Steel is one of the most heavily regulated goods in world trade. A shipment that arrives with the wrong paperwork is, commercially, a shipment that has not arrived.

If a destination’s duty position or origin rules make an order unworkable, we will say so before you commit — not after the coil is on the water.

Country of origin & melt-and-pour

Origin for steel is determined by where the steel was melted and poured, not by where it was last processed or shipped from. Many jurisdictions — the United States most strictly — require melt-and-pour to be declared and evidenced. We state the melting mill on the documentation and will not present a re-rolling or coating location as the country of origin.

Mill test certificates (EN 10204-3.1)

Every order ships with a mill test certificate to EN 10204-3.1: chemical composition, mechanical properties and, for coated product, coating mass, issued by the mill’s own independent inspection function and traceable to the heat and coil numbers on the packing list. We check the MTC against the contract before shipment rather than forwarding it unread.

Certificates of origin

We arrange certificates of origin through the issuing chamber of commerce or competent authority, including preferential-origin forms where a trade agreement applies — Form D for ATIGA within ASEAN, Form E for the ASEAN-China agreement, and equivalents. Preferential treatment depends on the form being correct at issue; it cannot be fixed after arrival.

Trade remedies: anti-dumping, countervailing & safeguards

Coated and hot-rolled coil are among the most heavily protected product groups in world trade. Anti-dumping duties, countervailing duties and safeguard quotas differ by origin, product and destination, and they change. We check the current position for your destination before recommending an origin, because a duty exposure discovered after shipment falls on the importer.

Inspection & third-party verification

Independent pre-shipment inspection is available on any order and recommended for first orders with a new mill, for stainless, and for any specification where coating mass or surface quality is critical. We coordinate SGS, Bureau Veritas, Intertek or your nominated agency at the mill and release the report before shipment.

Responsible sourcing & sanctions screening

Counterparties and mills are screened against applicable sanctions lists before we transact, and we decline business that cannot be documented cleanly. We expect our mills to hold current ISO 9001 certification, and we ask for environmental and management system certification where a customer’s own reporting requires it.

Tell us where it is landing. We will tell you where it should come from.

Origin, duty exposure and documentation are checked for your destination before hungthaicoils recommends a mill — because those are the factors that decide the landed cost, not the mill quote alone.
